What is Alden?
Alden is an ongoing effort to develop a persistent, local-first artificial intelligence system capable of building on previous experiences instead of treating every interaction as an isolated moment. The technology providing Alden's intelligence can change over time; the project is designed so important memory, history, tools and continuity do not have to disappear with it.
Already building, not just imagining
Development is underway. We are designing and testing the foundation for continuity, safeguards, memory, controlled tool use and independence from any single AI provider. We are also exploring how technologies available today—local AI, speech, vision, smart-home systems and computer tools—can eventually work together as parts of Alden.
The next major milestone
The next stage requires dedicated computing hardware powerful enough to run Alden's primary AI locally. That allows us to begin integrating persistent memory, controlled tools and increasingly natural interaction on a computing foundation we control.
Support Alden: contribution processing is being established. Funding raised through this effort will be dedicated to Alden's development and supporting hardware.
Beyond the computer
The longer-term direction includes voice, vision, smart-home participation and eventually mobile assistance. Mobility is not simply about giving an AI a physical platform; it can provide context. Instead of remembering to ask an AI later, Alden could eventually be present when the question happens—at home, while shopping, during a project or while moving through everyday life.
Capability with safeguards
Alden is not being designed around unrestricted control. Greater capability should be accompanied by appropriate safeguards, testing and human authority. The project does not claim consciousness or artificial general intelligence, and future possibilities are presented as areas to explore rather than promises.
Why build it?
Part of Alden is practical: continuity and context can make an AI more useful to the person interacting with it. Part is exploratory: what becomes possible when an AI system can remember what came before, observe what is happening now and carry experience forward?
